Somatics: invite your body into therapy
1:1 Adults in Aberteifi / Cardigan, in-person only.
Somatic means relating to the body distinct from the mind. Somatic therapy means noticing your body as a place of feelings and choices.
Learning to listen to your body is a way to understand yourself and make choices about how you live and feel.
Your body is talking to you all the time but maybe you're not listening, can't listen, neevr learnt how to listen. Maybe you never had the opportunity to make nourishing or vempowering choices at important times in your life so your body feel distant, frightening, unpredictable.
Somatic therapy is an opportunity to rebuild a relationship with your body and sensations.

Somatic therapy requires relational safety which means developing trust with another person. To encourage this between you and Meriel all inital sessions are in-person and weekly. Over time, online session are possible.

Somatic therapy can support nervous system stabilisation by practicing coping tools and techniques before other forms of therapy like counselling or psychotherapy.
Somatic therapy is suited to tolerating the aftermath of traumatic experiences held in our bodies.

Somatic therapy can be an alternative to talking therapy, a complement to counselling or a way to work creatively in a preverbal space.
